How I Broke the Rules at the Ritz

Hi Ladies!
You think 54 would make me more age appropriate when it comes to dressing?
Of course not! Should we care what others think at this stage of our lives?
The style confident woman says, it's not about age appropriate dressing  -It's more about body appropriate dressing -
Dress $2  - St-Vincent de Paul
Escada Jacket - $2 -Salvation Army
50s bag - $10
Jeffrey Campbell Platform - Retail

My, My!  i see fabulously fit and well shaped Ladies over 45  worried about looking too young or

not age appropriate when it comes to dressing,  but  in fact they look so good!
And nothing wrong with their style choices!
Let me ask you a question- Is there anybody out there in the real world that acknowledge how fantastic you look? and if so, do you believe them?

Why should you worry about the rest of the planet?

Women have a tendency not to believe that they actually look fantastic-
We spend so many unproductive minutes, hours looking for flaws-Why is that?
Look at me,see the chicken skin on my neck? who cares? that's life!
Frankly, it bugs me a little-
But does it make me less attractive?
Is it a reason not  to wear a short dress and platform boots?
Cause, i read awful stuff like, you clothes should match your body?
Where does it all come from?
Who said anything that stupid?
Does it mean i should wear old wrinkled clothes?

Fabulous 50s purse purchased last year
Plus, i went to the St-Vincent de Paul's monthly social security cheque half price sale
I got myself a few retro  $2 dresses for the summer
a7  a6 a5 a8 I I believe style after 45, 50 and over is not about competing with the younger crowd - or dressing like the girl you were 20 years ago - It's all about dressing like the women you are now-
If you prefer a short skirt, platform shoes, high heels, floral dresses, wear pastels, hearts, cats and the list goes on and on - It's your decision- My decision-
I wore this ensemble to go to brunch at the Ritz Carlton this Sunday for my birthday-
As we were awaiting for our table at the Ritz ,the young hostess  said -
I love your quirky  outfit - Nice style!

 I rest my case!

I will see you soon, don't know when, but i will be back!

Bises à tous !

Thanks for all your warmest and kindest birthday wishes

Well said! So many of us take no heed of compliments but when we get a slight criticism we focus entirely on that, don't we?
You look brilliant, your legs are amazing and need to be shown off at all times.
Love that navy maxi! xxxxx

Well of course you know I wholeheartedly agree with this. If you have the confidence to carry it off…which you obviously do, (in spades) then no one should question your decisions.

I had to laugh about the wrinkled clothes comment.

Isn't that brilliant that the young hostess complimented you? I can see why too, that little black jacket is perfect on you. The whole outfit is great in fact. Flowers on the dress, on the detail on the handbag, on the jacket and then those brilliant blue glasses.

I cannot wait till I see you in that super cool blue maxi dress. Wow! what a score.

Was brunch good at the Ritz?

You have such fabulous, style, Ariane, and I am soo loving every single little detail about this fabulous outfit! You make me laugh, you are so honest: why, should we wear old, wrinkled clothes? Of course not! Wear what makes us feel good. The fashion magazines, advertisers, brands - anyone with a vested interest - try and make us feel badly about ourselves so we'll continue the cycle of frenetic buying, forever in search of the (so they tell us) attainable but somehow always elusive dream of perfection. Thankfully you and others have figured it out. I have always admired the way you make fashion so joyous. It is a rare thing. Never lose that! Oh and I miss St Vincent dPaul - we were talking about that the other day. I love the blue dress and the patchwork one especially! I was stalking patchwork items on Etsy just the other day! Great talking with you the other day and yes, let's do it again. Glad you had a wonderful birthday celebration. Xoxo

You are right - we spend far too much time focusing on our "flaws". We should be celebrating how fabulous it is to be alive, and in our 50's! Love your look and your attitude. xox

Love the dress you have on too; very flirty!
So you sound mysterious--whats this about ..."dont know when?" Email me xoxo

Gorgeous items you got!! I oh so love the dress with the pink flowers on it with the black background, that is awesome!! I think you should dress as you please no matter what age...who cares! These supposed rules are for the boring lifeless people...but we are meant to live and to express and create and we should do so until we wish to stop!! Forget all the rest!! You look marvellous, I always enjoy what you wear :) Have a darling week xox

It's all about dressing like the women you are now

YES! That's it in a nutshell, isn't it? There will always be someone out there who will compliment or criticize, but our own innate sense of style is usually our best guide.

Well said Ariane. You look fabulous in your choices because you have confidence. Isn't that it? Having the confidence to carry it off, what ever style is your choice.

Of course! Wear what suits you, what makes you feel great, age has nothing to do with it! You look great, Ariane, you are confident and vibrant, and it shows! Compliments always help, hope the Ritz was fun. xxx

I think the phrase "age appropriate" should be removed from everyone's vocabulary, especially the media. You look great in this outfit, whereas some 20 or 30 year old may look terrible in it because they don't have the body shape and confidence that you do.

Lovely look.
That black bag is so wonderful!
Tnx for your following and I am your new follower too.

You are so right my dear. Now we are knowing what we want and how we get it we should not uselessly care about what people say of think. When we appreciate us this can be the best years in our life. Particularly with such a wide range of clothes we can choose. When I was young I only had the chance to buy in two boutiques and a department store. There were no 2nd hand or online shops. It would be a shame to miss the opportunities we have now. Only because we passed the 5oth.
You look so fabulous in our cute outfit. I love it. Particularly the jacket with the embroidery.
Have a good time Ariane!
Hugs from Sabine

I love St. Vincents! They always have the best deals. I've been to the one here in Northern Indiana and in St. Augustine, Florida and always leave with some kind of boon. Generally, I do better on books, but this is inspiration to give the clothes a more thorough inspection! <3
