This Week's Thrift Finds

Bonjour!

My number 1 hobby since being on sick leave has been thrifting.
Minimal effort but maximum satisfaction!
I discovered new charity shops and thrift stores and was able to enjoyed them since they are mostly opened only during the day. I will miss them when i return to work, which could next week or the end of the month, the insurance company is reviewing my medical file. I am awaiting a call today.
Telling you the truth, i hope it will be at the end of the month since my arm's mobility is somewhat limited.

About this outfit, i went to my seamstress to have the maxi shortened, but after consideration and having a good look in the seamstress's mirror i decided it looked fine and wore with my Doc Martens  i thought it looked pretty cool! I ran a couple of errands and found it very comfortable! Sold! This thing will a good run for its money!

This Hat Brought Back Memories

Bonjour!

On my way downtown to the massotherapist this week i noticed a church charity shop, oh well! I could not resist and I had about 10 minutes to spare. Well! i was delighted and found these 2 beautiful hats for $7

I intend to go back next week and I will schedule a bit more time before my next appointment to the massotherapist to have a good look at the place and probably come back with cheap goodies!

I look at  the hat's label and it brought back childhood souvenirs

This hat was sold at a department store called Dupuis et Frères

Dupuis et Frères opened in 1868 and closed in 1978

It was located on Ste-Catherine East- The east side of Ste-Catherine did not have the same prestige in those days, there were mostly small businesses and Dupuis et Frères was the only large department store in that area. Dupuis et Frères catered mostly to the french population.

This store was one of my mother's favorite place to shop, this is where we went to buy better quality affordable clothing - This is were i purchased my first bra, a nightmare by the way, could not find one my size! I was in the AAAAA....bra cup, i did not like the bra, my mom insisted on buying one ugly bra...I had dreams of lace and bows, i ended up with a basic shapeless no frill bra..

This House of Mine

Bonjour Ladies!

This post will be about my house and ongoing renovations in one of the apartment of Mr.D's quintuplex
I am on the second floor, the apartment was stripped and some walls came down to make it more opened
This  house was built at the beginning of the 20th century. An old lady lived in this apartment for 35 years, i guess renovations were in order to bring it up to date without scarifying some period details.

This is where I was for the first pic - This area will be the kitchen, dinning room and living room

The wood structure in the middle will come down and a patio door will replace the actual door and little window you see.

This a detail of one these old walls, they are called pièce par pièce

They used  horse hair to filled out the gaps

This old house has a lot of history

This will be the new bathroom with walk in closet and space for washer and dryer. This was originally a small bedroom plus the original bathroom.

This is our house. This is typical Montreal beginning of the 20th century architecture

It is called a quintuplex , 5 apartments on 3 floors

We lived on the bottom floor

About my outfit

I took me a long time to figure out how to style this skirt, it was not easy to find the right top but Izzy solved the dilemma she found the top for me!

I had 2 choices - go crazy with the patterns or stay with the neutrals, guess what i chose?

One Skirt- 2 Looks

Bonjour!

I hope you are all doing well - Today i will dress up a skirt and dress down a skirt -

Frankly, i am not the dress up type but you never know i might be invited to see Kate and William and i will be ready:)

This is lets have tea in the High Room -

You have seen the thrifted  blouse and cardi - The skirt was thrifted at La Gaillarde

Multicolor pearls found in a jewelery box that was left in the trash, clean trash!

Second look - I am ready to hang out with the Queen's Chauffeur!

This is what i wore today to go out  today -

The coat is an Hilary Radley Maxi Coat - total cost $6

The hat was bought at Macy's NY

Boots H&M on sale - $10

I was not sure about that coat but i loved the style, the double collar and the retro feel.
Plus it is a very warm coat and it rocks!

News, An Outfit And A Peek In My Closet

Bonjour!

Lovely Charlotte's House gave me an award this week! Be sure to check her blog out!
She is gorgeous, great sense of style and plus Ladies she married to stylish Victor!

Well the white stuff is coming down again this morning, 10 cms forcasted...

Yesterday was a busy day, went with lovely daughter Izzy to the Palais de Justice's wedding registry ( Court House) in Old Montreal to get her marriage licence and have the publication of the marriage banns, is this how you say it?

And sorry if i was not constant with my comments on your fabulous blogs, i was completely  taken with my new App on my Ipad - BBCplayer!

After that we went for a bit to eat at le Palais des Congrès and took some pics of us fabulous girls!

Izzy was telling me that you Ladies liked the mother - daughter pics, so we decided we might do it more often- Izzy will send me the pics and i might do a post with them this week.

My day ended up at the Insurance Company to pick up a cheque, got a bit frustrated so what is a girl to do when not happy? Shop of course! Thank God for H&M sales rack i got my frustrations out!

Hats And More Hats

Bonjour!

Hats and Hats- This post is about hats- I always loved hats, but never got to wear them a lot, or take pics with hats. But these days I am developing in interest for them and this is the one of the first items i look for in charity shops. 

This 60's hat was thrifted a while ago by Mr. D.

This hat came with 3 other ones in a vintage Stetson hat box

They probably belonged to an old lady.

I did know how to wear the hat, it was to small for my head, but one day while i was watching a Natalie Wood movie, i saw her wearing the same type of hat , i knew then how to wear it.

A real treasure for a vintage girl

The second hat was thrifted at Renaissance, i picked this one because of the color and pattern

The pics were taken in front of the custom made fireplace in the living room

Oups! you can see the camera's remote control, oh well i am certain you will forgive me!

Well i am done with all my appointments this week which were, physio, massotherapy, ect...

Next week will be a busy week - Going with Izzy to get her wedding certificate, yes! isn't exciting my little girl getting married this summer!

Plus more physio, massotherapy and GP next week.

Today i am going for a haircut and bringing some clothes at the seamstress and i might be watching British TV shows on my Ipad

I got this app called BBC Iplayer, you get all the series for a minimal fee.

This girl is so happy, I am such a big fan of the BBC!
