The Lady loves Her Polyester Skirt

Bonjour!
Nice to chat with you ladies before the weekend  starts !
Nothing special plan this weekend - yoga Saturday Morning and then probably some house stuff -
I will probably continue the painting i started last weekend, .  Mr D. and I  got the canvas and paint last week- i needed Mr. D to carry the huge canvas i wanted to get  - i started painting pretty strong  - i had kind of an idea what it would be and where it is going , I am not telling  you guys anything about it ! I will show  you when it's done- if it's good of course! - i might be a complete disaster or i will be in the moment at some time and do an amazing work of art.

I get my inspiration from everything, i look at colors in nature, fashion-city life, my neighborhood, the net, ect..I also look at other works of art. There are a lot of talented artists in Montreal, the choices are endless and  there are numerous techniques you can work with  - It did not have formal training apart a drawing course last winter that i found extremely hard, my right side of the brain was not used to work so hard. I think i  have  a natural talent - I  do  not want to sound too sure of myself, but  people around me liked what i did so far -

Now , about what i'm wearing in the pics , by the way it's all thrifted - I love the colors of the outfit, it reminds me of the colors of the sea -  The polyester skirt is one my favorite,  i had it shortened - It was made by Paris Star,  this company was Montreal based but unfortunately it  doesn't exist anymore - The top is  old Naf Naf - The vest is from Renaissance Montreal -  The shoes are  faux snake's skin patent leather found at Renaissance.

I have included some urban photography i did  - and a kitty of course, plenty around here

Enjoy! have a nice weekend - Je  vous fait la bise -  Ariane xxxxx

Mr. D's Skirt Or The Quest For Skinny Jeans

Hi everyone! I trust everybody is doing well – Splendid weather in Montreal- lets enjoy it while it lasts – I had an enjoyable weekend- Yoga Saturday morning followed by a massage for my shoulder which is  still sucking the life out of me and finally a bit of shopping- I usually do not buy new clothes, but sometimes I make an exception, budget permitting– I wanted a pair of those colored jeans that nobody wears but you see a lot in magazines

Shopping downtown can be a nightmare, so many people there -    I can not get over how much people shop and buy- it seems the worldwide recession did not hit us yet!

I finally found the jeans, it took me a while. I went to several stores, they did not have want I wanted and were too expensive - I finally found  Orange skinny jeans at Zara at a good price - Trendy items can be expensive -

I find these days that i have more fun in thrift shops than regular stores, everything is the same in regular stores, everybody is buying the same clothes, boring, boring!!.  The only places that you will find original items are in high end shops which i can not  afford.

But! there is always the sale racks at H &M - i confess i am addicted to the sale racks of H &M
How much new clothes versus second hand clothes do you buy?

For this outfit i was trying to go for a more boheme look, i love the skirt that Mr. D gave me and  i wanted to push the look  a little further

The pics were taken with my Pentax reflex and I used different effects - I added pics of the garden -
I am wearing –
Top – T from XX1
Dress- Thrifted at Renaissance Montreal
Skirt – gift of Mr. D – yes Mr. D brings me a bag of goodies every 2 weeks from the second hand store.

Enjoy Ariane xxxxx

The Cat Loves Mix Patterns

Experimenting with light and mix patterns, not easy when you are inside– I will soon be taking more pictures inside better practice, i think the best place after all will be my atelier in the basement, but will keep trying –  I shot these pics in the front entrance – The light was beautiful through the glass of the century old wooden door –
I played a lot with the camera settings – I had all kinds of light effects so I chose to treat the pics with several apps in Camera + – Since the outfit’s patterns were strong enough, I was pretty certain that I could get away with it. The cat loved so much my mix patterns that he gladly contributed to the pics.

Moving on to another subject – I am not a TV person but I admit to watch a little bit more in the winter. There is a new show starting September 25 that I absolutely want to see and it is ABC’s Pan Am – The reason? Well known Montreal french actress Karine Vanasse is playing Colette the seductress – will let you know what I think – So far the critics are half- hearted but I will decide if I like or not – hope it lasts if I like it. With all the choices we have now, Web TV – Itunes, and all - it is difficult nowadays for the major networks to score points, if I may say…

This weekend we will have a small birthday bash for Mr.D’s grand daughter, she is turning 6 – She ask that I bake the cake - I guess I am the cake expert now in this family – I said ok – what kind of cake do you want? – Vanilla with chocolate icing she replied – cute little thing!

Enjoy the pics -and have a wonderful weekend!

Meet Me In The Stairs

Hi Ladies!

Mr. D is watching hockey with his son tonight, yes our national sport, i am not a fan, I think there is too much violence in hockey and it seems that i will not change soon despite numerous attempts to stop or moderate the fights between the players, but they say it is part of the game and can you believe that the spectators expect it, i will never understand!  Give me soccer anytime!  anyhoo lets change the subject I guess it is a guy thing! Give me Fashion TV any day!

I was invited to a fashion event at the YWCA's Fringues & Cie one of my favorite thrift shop in the city. They will have a high end fashion section in the shop. October 6, is the grand opening + a local designer will launch a new line of jewelery. Izzy my daughter will accompany me and i expect it will be fantastic! I hope i will put my hand on some amazing pieces!

About Izzy, be sure to visit her blog and have a look at her Etsy shop, she has fabulous vintage pieces and she styles them with such taste that you want to buy everything she puts on line.

Her looks she styled for Addition Elle in Toronto are on her Facebook - i think she has a link for  her Facebook on her blog -it is worth checking, she did an amazing job, very proud mom!

I took my pics last week. I did not know how they would come out - but i am happy the way they turned out, especially the ones in the stairs -

I was wearing -

60's tunic- thrifted at Renaissance Montreal
Skirt - Simmons - thrifted at Fringues & Cie
Shoes - Yellow - Montreal

60's Monochrome

It has been a little while since my last post -  I am back ladies with my second official Fall look!

You all know already that I love fall – Fall for me besides changing wardrobe , I have to give you a little substance here…ok - Fall gives me a feeling serenity- For me , Fall means that something is finished but another story is about to begin – Fall makes me want to knit a scarf, which I am! Start a painting which I will! Cook an enormous amount of food – bake cakes and cookies – sit in front of the fire in the living room, read a good book in my favorite chair, go to the museum,  have hot tea, have a nap with my cat… ouf! all that substance just killed me ! and you? what is your favorite thing about Fall?

We booked the hotel in NY – Mr. D. and I are going with daughter Izzy and soon to be son in law Stephane. Should be a lot of fun !first time for me to travel with my daughter as an adult – Izzy knows the cheap thrift shops in Brooklyn – treasure hunting at affordable prices! Can’t wait!

Since the outfit was black and white, I chose to do the faded effect with Camera + - the hat was beige

I am wearing in this post -

60’s Hat found at Puce Pop
Sweater- Thrifted
Skirt – Thrifted
Socks - there are kitties on the socks - purchased in Portland ME
Booties – Steve Madden

This skirt makes me want to twist...

Hi Everyone!

Nothing special to report on this side of the world, life goes on and i might say with a full smile on my face, can not help it, I am with a wonderful man,  a lovely cat adores me, i have a good job, a fabulous house, I guess i am lucky,  and i count my blessings everyday.

Excited about trying all kind of new clothes combinations for fall, playing with colors, layers, patterns. I wish sometimes that  i could live in a warmer climate but one good thing about Montreal weather is that you have a good excuse to have a tons of clothes, which  i have, my daughter always says that my walk- in is amazing, name it i have it, but i shop mostly in second hand stores and i try to get my clothes as cheap as i can, but i confessed, i am an addict- is there a cure or do i want to know if there is cure...let me think about it...

We went for supper Sunday at a restaurant near my house,  called Le Cabotin - it was a men's clothing store converted into a restaurant, very retro decor and the food is excellent. Izzy might consider it for her wedding reception.

I took these pics on Sunday - mix pattern with a little twist... I took the pics with my Pentax reflex and treated them with Camera +

Top - thrifted at Puce Pop - Montreal
Skirt - H&M Montreal
Thights - H&M
Booties - Steve Madden

Enjoy Ariane xxxxx

Ipod Nation Summer 2011

Hi everyone !

Another crisp and cool Sunday morning in Montreal. I love pre-fall mornings. The sky is blue, the air is fresh,  the light is just right, Mr D. is smiling, chouchou my cat is playing in the garden kissing the fishies in the pond  - having a coffee and conversation on the verenda - is there anything better, well...a free shopping trip to Holt Renfrew maybe...

This post is all  about my  Ipod Nation pictures for the summer . I have been taking a lot of shots almost everywhere in Montreal -  Ipod Nation are pics i take with my Ipod in Montreal's subways, buses, walking back home from work or strolling in the old neighborhood and all over Montreal.

Now the news ...
I have been talking  a bit about my project at the YWCA in Montreal i could not say much, i was waiting to ear if all the Fringues &Cie ladies knew about it. So, i have learned that i will be taking pictures of the all the staff of Fringues & Cie  and it will be featured in their bi-monthly newsletter. The people at the Y love what i do. I am so pleased and honored, this is completly unexpected, i do this blog for fun but like they say, you never know what might happened in life and this is frankly a treat for me. I will have so much fun directing and shooting -  i already have ideas!

Another fab event coming up next summer is my daughter Izzy's wedding - I am so happy that Stephane and Izzy are getting married. Stephane will be the best son in law, he takes care of my Izzy, and loves her deeply, for a mother it is comforting to know that your daughter found such a nice man to share  her life with .

So ladies this is another excuse to shop till you drop to find the perfect dress and the perfect hat , vintage of course, for the wedding.

Enjoy the pics
